"FREE RANGE" is a semi-satirical multimedia video piece on animal agriculture industry practices presented as an online video game ‘playthrough’. The film implies commentary on the use of carbon dioxide gas chambers in pig slaughterhouses, whilst simultaneously exploring the unique minimal aesthetic of free-to-play internet browser games. A central element of the piece is the insinuation of interactivity and immersion, as the audience is posited as the player, their supposed control over the narrative slowly deteriorating. Graphics, .gifs, and animation were developed in Photoshop, Illustrator and Sony Vegas Pro. Score and sound by Melodie Showell Screened at “New Hybrids - Ruskin School Film & Music Collaborations 2023”.
