London Haunts Snap Lens logo
The “London Haunts” prototype was developed for the Snapchat x Royal College of Art collaboration in response to the ‘Education for Adults’ brief. The interactive experience invites users to explore 9 of London’s most mysterious and haunted locations, offering an engaging way to learn about the rich history and chilling tales that define these iconic spots. The user is encouraged to move their phone over a physical map as though they were guiding a planchette over an Ouija board, to ‘reveal’ the AR graphics. Upon opening the Lens, there is music and brief narration. When users tap on a location, detailed text will appear, providing historical context of the haunting tales associated with the site. This project stresses that educational tools for adults should blend entertainment with learning as much as those designed for children, and that playful experiences foster engagement with users of all ages. It demonstrates how technology can be combined with storytelling in informative and immersive ways, serving as accessible additions to existing learning activities like guided walking tours. Created in Lens Studio, Photoshop and Blender by Erjie Chen, Sanya Salehi, Selin Öztürk and Zoe Shum.
