Some City in a Nightmare
"Some City in a Nightmare" is a mixed media POV film shot inside of a handcrafted miniature model of the Soho and Tottenham Court Road area. The project features stop-motion animation, live-action, 2D animation and practical effects with VFX. The audience follows a woman as she wakes up before a high-tech display in the heart of London and discovers the city has become strange and surreal. Signs tell her not to go further, but she persists. At the same time, under the full moon, she realises she is turning into something else. The film explores artist positionality when portraying site-specific stories. It contemplates how traditional making processes and aesthetics can be retained in digital spheres in a world where they can be lost in the current of rapid technological development. Created by A to Z Productions (Ah Young Shin and Zoe Shum) at the Royal College of Art. Shortlisted for: • London Short Film Festival (Official Selection 2025) • Soho London Independent Film Festival (Official Selection - Screened at 75 Dean Street) • South London Shorts (Official Selection - Screened at Central Film School) • Kino Short Film OPEN MIC (Official Selection - Screened at Strongroom Bar) • Sound & Vision Short Film Night (Official Selection - Screened at Acton One Cinema)
