"STALL" is a 360/VR short film about a young person's first experience with menstruation. Overwhelmed by shame and reluctant to seek support from their parents, they embark on an extraordinary journey by wishing themselves away into a toilet multiverse. Within each alternate universe, they encounter displays of solidarity and open discussion about periods. They realise that having periods is entirely normal, and that it's perfectly acceptable to seek help. The mixed-media film explores the use of live action footage, 3D environments, miniature built sets, and 2D animation created in Photoshop, Blender, After Effects, and Premiere Pro. Developed by Aarti Bhalekar, Ah Young Shin, Ruby Bell, and Zoe Shum at the Royal College of Art. The film was exhibited in VR in a pop-up toilet cubicle as part of the RCA Digital Direction Winter Gathering in December 2023, as well as: • Aesthetica Film Festival (Official Selection - Screened at York venues) • Ivy Film Festival (Official Selection- Screened at Brown University)
